Broken-Rotored Helicopters and Other Thoughts

…because even the 9-year-old she-spawn yells “squirrel!” if she thinks I’m not fully paying attention to what she’s saying.

Uh. I should probably start this by mentioning that I have ADHD. My favorite thing about it is that I wasn’t diagnosed until earlier this year. Not officially, anyway. In college, I wrote a song called, “Ritalin,” during an English class. My family has always joked about my lack of attention span, as have my friends. And while I’m sure it’s charming, endearing, and hilarious in small doses, say, if you work with me or hang out with me on a social level (what’s a social life?); the half-finished tasks and heartfelt conversations that you later find out are one-sided when I ask “Were those tiles always green?” (sorry, Brad) are only endearing for so long.

The struggle is real. So, here I am. In my last post, I talked about suicide prevention. I’m not entirely sure where I’m going with this one, but bear with me. Brenda (not a codename, this time) is raising money for the Greater Lycoming Out of the Darkness Walk, sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She is walking in memory of her son, Scott, and also one of her co-workers. This is obviously a cause she is very passionate about; and I can understand why- but I have come to realize that I am, too.

Disclaimers are good, yo.

The number one thing people tend to misunderstand is that I am one sarcastic mofo. No, I would not ACTUALLY like to shank myself in the eye right now, because 1: my eyes are pretty, and 2: fuckin’ ouch. But sometimes, just sometimes, the thought runs across my brain (thank you, ADHD and warped sense of humor), that shanking myself in the eye MIGHT be more enjoyable than speaking to/listening to whomever I’m conversing with; or doing whatever I’m doing. And I don’t have a filter.  Continue reading
